Strawberry-Basil Lemon Vodka Tonic  
Adding fresh fruit and herbs to your favorite cocktail is the perfect way to create a seasonal drink. The added twist of lemon enhances the flavors of the ingredients bringing it all together. Unwind after a busy summer day with this delicious cocktail.
Yield: 2 servings
Preparation: 10 minutes
½ of a fresh lemon, sliced*
2 large strawberries, hulled and halved
2 large fresh basil leaves
3 ounces of plain or citrus flavored vodka
1 ounce simple syrup
8 ounces tonic (or club soda)
Ice
Lemon zest* and strawberries, for garnish
Add the lemon and strawberries to a cocktail shaker. Tear the basil into large pieces and add to the lemon and strawberries. Muddle the ingredients together until the juice has been extracted from the fruits and the strawberries are mashed.
Pour in the vodka and simple syrup. Stir to mix all of the ingredients. Strain half of the cocktail into each serving glass.
Add 4 ounces of tonic to each glass. Fill with ice and serve. Garnish with sliced strawberries and a piece of lemon zest.
